Summary:

The Systems Software Engineer is responsible for the analysis, development, modification, installation, testing, and maintenance of operating systems software. This role requires a strong understanding of systems programming, graphical user interfaces, and control languages. The engineer will evaluate vendor-supplied software packages, make recommendations to IT management, and modify or debug vendor-supplied utilities and packages.

Responsibilities:
  • Analyze, develop, modify, install, test, and maintain operating systems software.
  • Evaluate vendor-supplied software packages and make recommendations to IT management.
  • Modify and debug vendor-supplied utilities and packages.
  • Modify, install, and prepare technical documentation for system software applications.
  • Diagnose, isolate, and debug software problems and perform problem resolution.
  • Monitor systems capacity and performance, and plan and execute disaster recovery procedures.
  • Provide Tier 2 technical support.
  • Work as a project team member or occasionally as a project leader on multiple products, activities, and projects.
  • May coach more junior technical staff.
Required skills:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field; or equivalent work experience.
  • A minimum of 4 years of IT work experience in systems administration and programming.
  • Intermediate professional level with expertise in one product/system and ability to work in multiple technical environments.
  • Strong understanding of systems programming, graphical user interfaces, and control languages.
