Job Description

Staff Accountant-

American Northwest Distributors, Inc. (ANW) | Seattle, WA | Full-Time

About ANW-
At ANW, work is meaningful, rooted in authentic connections, and guided by purpose. As a people-first company, we have evolved into a Teal organization built on self-management, wholeness, and purpose-driven work. That means no rigid hierarchy and no micromanagement, just a committed team focused on collaborative problem-solving and on creating genuine value for our customers and partners.

Guided by our core values of Integrity, Mastery, Progress, Advocacy, Communication, and Trust, we create a space where each person steps into their purpose, brings their whole self, and contributes to a community that cares. If you want to build a career where every voice matters and you are part of something larger, we welcome you.

About the Role-
We are looking for a hands-on, detail-driven Staff Accountant to help run the day-to-day finance operation for our private, multi-entity wine and spirits distribution company operating across Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. You will run the mechanics of the monthly close and the regulatory filing calendar, and you will share the workload directly with our Senior Accountant so that no one person carries too much.

You will work under the financial leadership of our fractional CFO, who holds final sign-off, owns internal-controls design, and leads banking and strategy. You prepare and execute; the CFO reviews and approves. You will also be a real partner in automation, working with our internal technical team to remove repetitive work so the team can spend its time on judgment rather than data entry.

We operate in the three-tier alcohol distribution system, so state-by-state compliance is part of the daily rhythm. Prior beverage-alcohol or distribution experience is a strong plus, though not required for the right candidate.

What You Will Do-

Close and Financial ReportingALL Prepare the monthly and quarterly close across three state entities, including consolidation, and suspense entries, and per-state profit and loss.
Prepare journal.
Draft financial statements and management reporting for CFO review.

Treasury and Cash
Monitor daily cash and line-of-credit balances, reconcile prior-day deposit and payment activity, and prepare daily transfers.
Execute weekly payables runs and EURO payments.
Review bank Positive Pay daily.

Regulatory and Tax Filings
Prepare monthly tax filings for each state.
Build clean, checkable returns and route them for verification before submission. Final figures are confirmed by a reviewer, every time.
Provide audit-ready schedules and support year-end work with our outside CPA.

Bank and Covenant Reporting
Prepare the monthly Borrowing Base report within 15 days of month end.
Prepare the quarterly bank F/S within 45 days, and assemble support for the annual Certificate of Covenant Compliance within 120 days.
Route all bank reporting to the fractional CFO and CEO for review and signature.

Controls and Accuracy
Operate within and help maintain internal controls across AP, AR, billbacks, payroll, and the bank.
Work within a clear split of duties with Senior Accountant so that no single person creates and pays, or records and reconciles.
Own the accuracy of the numbers and flag issues early.

Sharing the Workload
Work alongside our Senior Accountant to share and rebalance a workload that has carried too much manual cleanup, each taking clear ownership of assigned areas and covering for the other.
Take on the judgment calls and exceptions in your areas so experienced team members are freed for higher-value work.
Collaborate openly in a self-managed environment, lean on clarity and trust rather than top-down direction.

Automation and Continuous Improvement
Partner with our internal technical team to automate repetitive, rules-based work and remove rework at its source.
Champion data integrity and clean inputs.
Take part in continuous-improvement projects that make the finance function faster, more reliable.

Where This Role Focuses-
This role is focused on accounting and finance. Human resources is handled by our General Office Administrator and is being transitioned to an outsourced provider, and benefits and payroll processing sit with that function and our payroll partner. Financial leadership, internal-controls design, and final sign-offs are held by our fractional CFO. That focus lets this role do the exceptional accounting work.

Who You Are-
An experienced Staff Accountant comfortable running the mechanics of a close and a compliance calendar.
Experienced with multi-entity accounting and consolidation. Inventory-based, distribution, or beverage-alcohol experience is a strong plus, as is familiarity with the three-tier system.
Systems-savvy and automation-minded. Strong with QuickBooks and Excel, and genuinely interested in using modern tools, including AI, to remove manual work.
Accurate, organized, and dependable, with the discipline that clean books and clean controls require.
Proactive, resourceful, and energized by collaborative work in a decentralized organization.
Ethical, transparent, and steady, thriving in a culture built on trust and accountability.

Working Relationships-
Works under the financial leadership of the fractional CFO, who provides review, sign-off, and controls direction.
Shares the workload day to day with our Senior Accountant, and collaborates with the AR and accounting team.
Coordinates with the General Office Administrator on people-operations matters and with the CEO on reporting.
Works with external partners including the bank, outside CPA, and auditors.

Compensation and Benefits-
Salary: $75,000 to $85,000
Health Insurance
Dental Insurance
Vision Insurance
Life insurance
Paid time off
