DRTx is happy to announce that we are currently recruiting for three (3) additional Representative Payee Reviewers for the SSA Rep Payee Program. Please note these positions will office out of one of the DRTx offices listed below, and remote work/telecommuting is not available during the probationary period. Also, please note that extensive travel within the State of Texas is required, often to remote rural locations, for all Rep Payee Reviewer positions:
- Houston (travel to the Rio Grande Valley and El Paso is required for this position)
- Austin
- San Antonio
Position Summary
Disability Rights Texas (DRTx) is the federally designated legal and protection advocacy organization for persons with disabilities in Texas to protect and advocate for the rights of people with disabilities. The primary role of the
Social Security Representative Payee Reviewer is conducting site reviews of Organizations and Individuals that serve as a representative payee for Social Security beneficiaries following specific guidelines and protocols as set forth by the Social Security Administration. The Reviewer works extremely independent of others in the Organization, travels to many locations across Texas, conducts interviews of representative payees and beneficiaries, reviews worksites and housing facilities, reviews financial records, assesses violations or potential incidents of mismanagement of beneficiary funds and then writes up a report regarding findings. Further, the reviewer develops corrective action plans to assist representative payees in meeting requirements specified by the Social Security Administration Commissioner.
Government clearance by the United States Government Office of Personnel Management is required for this position. Work Environment & Functional Requirements
- This position involves regular use of computers, telephones, and other communication tools to conduct reviews, document findings, and communicate with stakeholders.
- Duties may be performed in a seated, standing, or alternative position. The role includes frequent travel, conducting on-site reviews, and interacting with individuals in a variety of environments, including community-based and residential settings.
- The position requires managing multiple priorities, meeting deadlines, and addressing complex or sensitive situations.

Essential Functions
- Conduct site reviews of representative payees, including interviews with payees and beneficiaries.
- Review and analyze financial records, case files, and supporting documentation to assess compliance with SSA requirements.
- Observe and evaluate facilities and service environments for compliance with applicable standards.
- Gather, document, and analyze information to identify potential issues, risks, or violations.
- Prepare detailed reports summarizing findings, conclusions, and recommendations for corrective action.
- Develop and communicate corrective action plans to support compliance with SSA requirements.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation in accordance with program standards.
- Communicate effectively with internal staff, external partners, and stakeholders regarding review findings and processes.
- Build and maintain professional working relationships with individuals, agencies, and organizations involved in the review process.
- Apply relevant laws, regulations, policies, and program requirements in conducting reviews and making determinations.
- Manage workload and travel schedule to meet deadlines and program expectations.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive and protected information.
- Work independently while coordinating with team members and supervisors as needed.
- Participate in required training and professional development activities.

Required Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Minimum of four (4) years of experience in investigations, auditing, compliance, or a related field, including experience working with individuals with disabilities; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of basic accounting principles and financial record analysis.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, regulations, and compliance standards, or the ability to acquire such knowledge within a reasonable period of time.
- Ability to gather, analyze, and interpret complex information and make sound determinations.
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences using a variety of communication methods, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and related systems.
Other Requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain required federal government security clearance.
- Ability to travel frequently throughout Texas, including rural locations, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience reviewing and analyzing financial records in a compliance or audit setting.
- Familiarity with Social Security regulations, including income and resource requirements.
- Experience working with government entities or contractors.
- Spanish bilingual proficiency (written and spoken).
