Job Description

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Product Owner will partner closely with Product Management to execute on the product roadmap, vision, and strategic goals while serving as the primary point of contact for the scrum team. This role is responsible for translating product strategy into well-defined, prioritized backlog items and ensuring the development team is consistently working on the highest-value initiatives, as directed by Product Management.

The Product Owner will lead key Scrum ceremonies, including Backlog Refinement and Sprint Planning. They will proactively identify and remove blockers, escalating issues to the Product Management when necessary, and ensuring clear communication around scope, priorities, and delivery timelines.

This role also plays a critical part in sprint execution and release management, accepting completed work, coordinating production releases, and ensuring release documentation and communication are thorough, accurate, and aligned with stakeholder expectations.

OBJECTIVES

  • Align on product vision and strategy with Product Management and clearly communicate the product roadmap, priorities, and goals to the scrum team
  • Own and continuously refine the product backlog, ensuring all user stories, features, and acceptance criteria meet the definition of ready for development
  • Translate business strategy into actionable Epics, Features, and User Stories
  • Ensure the scrum team is building the most valuable features at the right time by applying agile best practices and disciplined feature prioritization
  • Lead sprint execution by facilitating sprint planning, reviewing prior sprint performance, carrying over items as needed, determining team capacity, and aligning on sprint goals and themes
  • Act as the primary communication bridge between Product Management and Engineering, managing expectations, gathering feedback, and clarifying requirements
  • Identify, remove, and escalate blockers to maintain momentum and delivery predictability
  • Coordinate release management activities, including production release timing, feature flags, validation of release success, and detailed release notes (story numbers, supported initiatives, and impacted projects)

COMPETENCIES

  • Product Ownership: Strong ability to own and manage the product backlog, define priorities, and align delivery with product strategy and business goals
  • Agile Execution: Proven experience leading Scrum ceremonies including backlog refinement, sprint planning, sprint execution, and acceptance of completed work
  • Vision & Strategy Alignment: Ability to partner with Product Management to translate vision into executable plans and clearly communicate priorities to delivery teams
  • Customer-Centric Mindset: Deep understanding of the end-to-end customer journey with a focus on delivering seamless, high-impact experiences
  • Technical Fluency: Comfort working with engineering teams and software development lifecycle tools, such as Azure DevOps or Linear
  • Release & Delivery Management: Experience coordinating production releases, validating outcomes, and ensuring transparent documentation and communication
  • Backlog Readiness & Refinement Leadership: Proactively prepares and presents user stories for refinement, leading backlog refining sessions to ensure the team maintains a fully refined backlog covering at least two future sprints
  • Product Knowledge & Documentation: Develops and maintains comprehensive product documentation, demonstrating a deep understanding of our products, workflows, and dependencies to support engineering, product, and cross-functional alignment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required
  • 5+ years of experience in product ownership. Experience within HealthTech or a similarly regulated industry is a plus.
  • Proven success leading cross-functional initiatives that drive measurable business outcomes
  • Strongly Desired: Experience collaborating with data scientists and engineers to deploy AI/ML-based personalization or predictive models
