Agency Dept of Health and Human Services Division Broughton Hospital Job Classification Title HVAC Mechanic II (S) Position Number 60038548 Grade NC10 Description Of Work Worker will report to HVAC supervisor and should be able to work largely independently on assigned duties, including advanced heating and cooling, troubleshooting, and repairs. Daily worker will oversee chillers and other HVAC systems ranging from 1 ton to 400 ton. Also, will maintain, troubleshoot, and repair large commercial coolers and freezer system. Work will include servicing and repairing ice machines. This work will require participation in an after‑hour call‑back program due to the nature of working in a hospital setting. Requires current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities / Management Preferences Recruitment Range: $41,655.00 – $72,897.00 Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred: Knowledge of HVAC systems. Work experience in an institutional/hospital environment a plus. Advanced knowledge of electrical controls, direct digital controls, and BAS (building automation systems) a plus. Knowledge of Variable speed drives (VFD). Ability to read wiring diagrams & schematics. Applicant must be able to exercise good judgement & at times work independently. Physical Requirements Ability to walk, stand, kneel, crawl, climb, stoop, & lift. Ability to perform very heavy work. Require visual acuity to be able to perform activities for the job such as operating machinery or performing mechanical trade tasks of a non-repetitive nature. Ability to work within environmental factors such as cold or hot temperatures inside or outside. Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50lbs, climb a ladder, and work in temperatures over 85° for more than 30 minutes. Must be able to pass a respirator fit test. Conditional Requirements Selected applicants must be able to pass a State Bureau of Investigation Criminal History Check, and complete and pass BLS/CPR training and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training during orientation. Shift and Call‑Back Responsibilities Monday – Friday, 1st shift (7:30 am – 4:00 pm), weekends, holidays, and evenings after 4:00 pm as necessary; emergency or inclement weather callback. Required to perform on‑call duties as primary or secondary on‑call staff. About The Facility Broughton Hospital is one of the three regional psychiatric hospitals with statutory responsibility for operating as part of the Division of State Operated Healthcare Facilities (DSOHF).
