Steilacoom High School is seeking a collaborative, student-centered Principal to join our leadership team. We are a school district that values strong relationships, high expectations, and meaningful learning experiences. Our experienced high school staff is deeply committed to supporting students as they grow into joyful and confident graduates and we are looking for a leader who will share that commitment.

As Principal, you will lead and support students and staff in creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging school environment. As the district's only high school, serving nearly 1,000 students, SHS plays a central role in shaping the student experience across our communities. You will work closely with our teams to support high-quality instruction , guide student behavior and systems of support, and help lead programs that serve our amazing students. We are looking for someone who is approachable, organized, and visible in the day-to-day life of the school, while also able to lead with clarity and purpose.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills

  • Valid Washington State Elementary (K-12) School Administrative credentials.
  • Three to five (3-5) successful years as a school administrator.
  • Three to five (3-5) successful years teaching experience.
  • Ability to create a safe, orderly, positive school climate for students and staff.
  • Knowledge and experience of TPEP and timeline of implementation.
  • Demonstrate successful experience in shared decision-making, program development, staff supervision and evaluation.
  • Knowledge and skill in fiscal management, staff development, and human relations.
  • Ability to work with Washington State's standards and assessments.
  • Knowledge and demonstrative skills in the use of technology for teaching and learning.
  • Managerial skill in planning, organizing, delegating, and listening.
  • Ability to gain and demonstrate knowledge of district and State laws that govern budget procedures and expenditures.
  • Strong understanding of Special Education law, including the ability to guide staff and ensure compliant, effective implementation of services.
  • Knowledge about laws, rules and regulations governing the operation of public schools, including school reform legislation.
  • Knowledge of innovative instructional practices, including differentiated instruction, alternative assessments, blended learning, and inclusive supports for diverse learners.
  • Ability to supervise and support evening and extracurricular activities as part of the administrative team.
  • Ability to respond effectively in emergencies, including taking appropriate action to ensure the safety of students and staff in accordance with district policy.
