Job Description

Note: Position is for 200 days and up to 5 hours per day.

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Director - Meadowview & Director - Early Childhood, develops, coordinates, and oversees food service for students in Eaton RESA special education programs and Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP).

The position coordinates the district's food service program in conformance with local, state, and federal regulations and requirements, including public health and safety. Prepare and serve nutritious and attractive meals for consumption.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Oversee and coordinate the daily operation of the district's food service program.
• Monitor food production and service to assure that planned menus are followed and that substitutions comply with meal requirements.
• Maintain full production records on all meals.
• Develop and prepare all reports for the Michigan Department of Education.
• Take a monthly physical inventory of all food products and supplies.
• Process and approve all applications for free and reduced lunches and keep records current for state audits.
• Coordinate food purchases, preparation, and personnel for special events.
• Order all daily and special foods from vendors.
• Promote student satisfaction by merchandising and serving meals in an attractive manner.
• Assure sanitation and safety procedures in all phases of the food service operation.
• Assess food service equipment needs.
• Prepare and serve nutritious and attractive meals.
• Assist with meal production as directed.
• Maintain and apply all safety, sanitation and cleanliness standards and practices in all food service areas as required by federal, state, local and district regulations and policies.
• Operate production equipment and dishwashing equipment.
• Compile and maintain appropriate records and forms.
• Receive, stock and inventory food and supplies.
• Transport food and supplies and cash bags/boxes when necessary.
• Compile and maintain appropriate records for federal, state and local regulations and reports.
• Monitor reimbursable meal qualification at point of service.
• Meet and service the needs of clientele in a timely fashion and in a pleasant and appropriate manner.
• Attends training sessions, conferences, seminars, department and district meetings. Serves on District committees, task forces, work groups, etc., as requested.
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS (If Applicable) :

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:

Required
• Option 1 - Possession of a bachelor's degree in food service management, nutrition, or a related field
• Option 2 - Possession of a high school diploma AND three (3) years or more experience in food service.

Desired
• Three (3) years or more experience in school-based food service.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
• Knowledge of local, federal, and state laws and regulations governing child nutrition programs within the educational setting.
• Knowledge of quantity, food preparation, sanitation principles, menu planning, inventory control, record keeping, and production schedules
• Knowledge of nutrition requirements, principles of good nutrition and quantity, food preparation and service, price and portion controls, food ordering and storage methods, and proper operation and maintenance of food service equipment.
• Knowledge of food handling, safety and sanitation standards and techniques.
• Skill in leadership and project organization (planning, progress monitoring, problem solving and evaluating).
• Skill with the use of technology to implement work responsibilities.
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume, food costs and inventory.
• Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders to gain consensus related to delivery of food services.
• Ability to develop and maintain positive and effective coaching and consultative relationships with administrators, staff, parents, community partners and youth.
• Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences both orally and in writing.
• Ability to maintain emotional control under stressful situations.
• Ability to develop collaborative relationships with colleagues, administrators, classroom teachers, support staff, students and parents.
• Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality in dealing with staff, students and operations.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS
• Position requires work in the evenings and summer months as requested.
• Position requires the employee to provide his/her own transportation for job related travel.
• Position requires regular and predictable attendance at the workplace.
• The position is year round, with the majority of the days during the traditional school year, but may also include some summer work days, and evenings based on program needs.
