Job Description

The Global Justice Center (GJC), a feminist human rights organization that uses international law to advance gender equality, is seeking highly-motivated Legal Interns for both the spring and summer 2026 terms. The ideal candidate is a team player who is interested in working with a small and dynamic organization. The candidate should be familiar with and passionate about international human rights law, reproductive rights, and accountability for sexual and gender-based violence. GJC aims to provide plenty of opportunities for our interns, including creativity in legal analysis, academic growth, exposure to current trends and issues in international human rights law, and the ability to make a strong contribution to a pioneering international human rights legal organization. GJC prefers interns who can work out of our New York office, where we work in a hybrid capacity (3 days in-person in our New York office, 2 days remote). Fully remote internships are possible where candidates can commit to working on Eastern Time and have reliable internet access. Interns must commit to a minimum of 18 hours per week. For candidates working from our New York office or elsewhere in the US, prior US work authorization is required. Qualifications: Enrolled law student or recent graduate (within 3 years of graduating). Knowledge of and experience in international law or human rights law. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. English fluency required; additional languages, especially French, a plus. Ability to work independently. Compensation: The Global Justice Center encourages interns to seek outside funding or university course credit for their internships. The Global Justice Center is able to make available one full-time, two-month internship with a stipend to help defray living costs for candidates who can commit to a full 37-hour work week. The internship stipend is not considered a salary or meant as work compensation. How to Apply: To apply, send a current resume, cover letter, and a writing sample in a single .pdf file to resumes@globaljusticecenter.net with the subject line: Spring 2026 Legal Internship or Summer 2026 Legal Internship (you may also apply for both possible time periods; subject line in that case should read 2026 Legal Internship). Given the limited availability of the stipend, applicants are encouraged to explore all potential funding sources before applying. In your email, please clarify if you will be funded, receive university course credit for the internship, or if you would like to be considered for the stipend . If you will be funded but require GJC’s support to apply for funding, please note the funding program and application deadline date. Please also confirm your availability (including an approximate start and end date) and hours available each week. Only candidates who have been selected for an interview will be contacted. The Global Justice Center is committed to diversity and inclusion, and is actively seeking and encouraging applications from people of color, individuals with disabilities and/or people who are LGBTQIA, as well as those from diverse racial, ethnic, and regional backgrounds. We believe that advocacy is strongest and most effective when it reflects a range of perspectives and diverse backgrounds, particularly those who have historically been marginalized or underrepresented. As an equal opportunity employer, GJC will consider all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status. #J-18808-Ljbffr Globaljusticecenter
